Maple Blondie Brownie Dessert

Monday was National Dessert Day so Joe and I made the most of it by enjoying one of my favorite, easy desserts, Maple Blondie Brownie Dessert.  It actually contains two of my favorite things: blondie brownies and ice cream!

Last year I did a post about blondie brownies in general.(https://athomefordinner.wordpress.com/2011/01/23/blondie-brownies/)  The blondie is very similar to a bar-style chocolate chip cookie.  There are tons of variations on the blondie, anything can be added, from jams swirled in, to chocolate chips and nuts.  This recipe is again a basic blondie recipe, but with walnuts stirred in.

The thing that makes this recipe so decedant is the sauce.  The sauce is three simple ingredients: maple syrup, butter and brown sugar.  Bring them to a boil, and your ready to eat.  Yummmmm…..

The brownies can be made a day ahead, just cover and store at room temperature.  The sauce can also be made ahead and refrigerated tightly covered.  To reheat, microwave the brownies for 15-20 seconds per serving, top with ice cream and spoon with sauce.  To reheat the sauce, microwave for 1 minute until warm.

I apologize for the lack of pictures for this post, for some reason my camera was fighting with me!  But I think you get the point.  This is a yummy, easy dessert you can make for company, or just for the weekday dessert!  Enjoy!

Maple Blondie Brownie Dessert

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/8 tsp baking soda

1/8 tsp salt

1 cup flour

1/4 cup walnuts(more if desired)

1/3 cup butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar

1 egg

1 TBSP vanilla

1/2 cup white chocolate chips(if desired)

SAUCE:

3/4 cup maple syrup

1/2 cup butter

3/4 cup brown sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  In a large bowl, combine butter and brown sugar.  Blend in egg and vanilla.  Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.  Stir in walnuts and white chocolate chips.  Spread into 9×9-inch pan.  Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.  To make sauce:  Place all sauce ingredients in a small saucepan over medium high heat.  Bring to a simmer for 1-2 minutes, until slightly thickened.  Place brownie square in bottom of bowl.  Scoop vanilla ice cream on top, and top with maple sauce.  Serve immediately.  Makes 6 servings.
