National Chips and Dip Day: March 23

Chips and dip is a snack that has been around forever.  We are huge salsa fans at our house, and I know more than a few people who consider Lawson’s Chip Dip a comfort food.  I made this dip for a class I did around the time of the Super Bowl and it is fantastic.  You can eat it with torn up hoagie rolls or tortilla chips, pita chips or regular old potato chips.  No matter what you use, it’s yummy!

Hoagie Dip

½ pound cooked ham, thinly sliced

½ pound Genoa salami, thinly sliced

1 pound processed American cheese, sliced

2 cup mayonnaise

2 tsp dried oregano

1 onion, chopped

½ head iceberg, shredded

2 tomato, diced

12 hoagie rolls, torn into pieces for dipping

Cut the ham, salami, and American cheese into small pieces. Place in a large bowl. In a medium bowl, blend the mayonnaise and oregano. Mix the mayonnaise mixture into the ham mixture ½ cup at a time, until meats and cheese are well coated. Mix in the onion. Before serving, mix in the lettuce and tomatoes. Serve with the hoagie roll pieces for dipping.
